I’m sitting in the railway station.
Got a ticket to my destination.
On a tour of one-night stands my suitcase and guitar in hand.
And every stop is neatly planned for a poet and a one-man band.
Homeward bound,
I wish I was,
Homeward bound,
Home where my thought’s escaping,
Home where my music’s playing,
Home where my love lies waiting
Silently for me.

Every day’s an endless stream
Of cigarettes and magazines.
And each town looks the same to me, the movies and the factories
And every stranger’s face I see reminds me that I long to be,
Homeward bound,
I wish I was,
Homeward bound,
Home where my thought’s escaping,
Home where my music’s playing,
Home where my love lies waiting
Silently for me.

Tonight I’ll sing my songs again,
I’ll play the game and pretend.
But all my words come back to me in shades of mediocrity
Like emptiness in harmony I need someone to comfort me.
Homeward bound,
I wish I was,
Homeward bound,
Home where my thought’s escaping,
Home where my music’s playing,
Home where my love lies waiting
Silently for me.
Silently for me.

After being a jet set type of bird, “laying eggs ” on one continent, while being born in another , flying back to see if there has been anything forgotten and so the list goes:

  1. Language you can relate to, and able to express yourself
  2. common cultural history and present feeling of “i belong here”
  3. familiar scenery, memories of childhood..
  4. the weather is familiar, the sun is shining ( in this particular case)
  5. the people seem more friendly , everything easier.. and yet..

what is done, is done, the eggs have hatched, the birds have learned to flutter and fly

and you would miss them terribly , in a place you might feel more comfortable in but also more far away from what has now become your family.

so simple solution ; go listen to Paul Simon, he has been singing this song for around 50 years and still seems to long for a home..so welcome to the club of those seeking and longing for what is somewhere else..

learn to accept what you can not change!
