Lyrics
I am sailing
I am sailing
Home again
‘Cross the sea
I am sailing,
Stormy waters
To be near you,
To be free

I am flying,
I am flying
Like a bird
‘Cross the sky
I am flying,
Passing high clouds
To be with you,
To be free

Can you hear me, can you hear me
Through the dark night, far away
I am dying, forever crying
To be with you, who can say

Can you hear me, can you hear me
Through the dark night far away
I am dying, forever crying
To be with you, who can say

We are sailing, we are sailing
Home again
‘Cross the sea
We are sailing
Stormy waters
To be near you,
To be free

Oh Lord, to be near you, to be free
Oh Lord, to be near you, to be free
Oh Lord, to be near you, to be free
Oh Lord

somehow i am going to  be leaving this land of egyptian metaphor,

There were many branches to hang on to as i struggled to find meaning

and an answer to the question  i asked again and again staring into the cold night air

“Why AM i here? ”

Your children stopped convincing since they learned to walk, work and sail away on  boats where there was no place for an older lady singing too loud …yes, it had been challenging to live in a place where i kept running out of reasons i needed to stay , for the children, i said, but then the divorce books kept repeating the phrase

” NEVER STAY JUST BECAUSE OF THE CHILDREN”

The children grew older and further , and then there were fewer reason to stay, the snow makes my skin appear younger, the quiet peaceful silence , the spaces between people that allow you to grow branches like a tree , the tree like energy of growing quietly not minding the insects and birds building nests in your hair, ah, the list of metaphors grow long and unconvincing and then there were more reasons to live in the heartless heart of Europe , kept like a perpetual foreigner like an embryo  sustained in a jar  , looking out through the glass , not knowing why there was the abortion that had led to this existence of living -not living- being- not being- an Hamlet performance every night”TO BE OR NOT TO BE  IN EUROPE ” that is the question…and there were many answers , no, no no, said the intuition, no no no , said the shivering old dog, no no no, said the holidays spent lighting chanuka candles alone while the children had grown tired of spinning the dreidel , and Friday nights had to be negotiated over a braided home made challa and matzo ball soup …please come home to eat vegetarian nearly vegan not so tastey food, please come home to look at the baby photos and the souvenirs of kindergarten crafts but then time never did stand still and the river that flowed, flowed and the boat that had to sail in every normally developed child’s path, sailed, with me staring at the boat waving struggling to not jump and sail myself..

yes, the great concerts, Leonard Cohen, Paul Simon, Patti smith ( twice ) , Elvis Costello , everyone sells  the Swiss golden ticket but to attend a concert, i have learned,if not taught to me in theater class, the audience is part of the performance and to attend any concert, even the great L. Cohen, with stoic faced , even sometimes dancing but holding their cup of almost spilling beer to make sure they find courage to let it all hang, the unfriendly, sometimes chatty but not really, fake sort of staying within their own group, staring as though you are thin air and not knowing when they will complain about you making a film or breathing , it will be such a pure pleasure to watch a singer like Rod stewart perform to an audience of rude, loud, people of my tribe of chutzpa, shocked and horrified by the loud noisy chatty pushing lively chaotic crowds and if this is not the sign that things are getting better in 2017 despite the signs the end is near, then what else?

Legendary British rocker Rod Stewart will be returning to Israel on June 14 to perform at Park Hayarkon in Tel Aviv.

With his distinctive raspy singing voice, Stewart came to prominence in the late 1960s and early 1970s with The Jeff Beck Group (1967-1969) and then Faces. He launched his solo career in 1969 with his debut album An Old Raincoat Won’t Ever Let You Down.

With his career in its fifth decade, Stewart has achieved numerous solo hit singles worldwide, most notably in the UK, where he has garnered six consecutive number one albums. He has sold over 130 million records worldwide, and is one of the best selling British singers of all time. He was voted at #33 in Q Magazine’s list of the top 100 Greatest Singers of all time.

As part of his worldwide ‘HITS 2017’ tour, Stewart will naturally be performing all the massive hits from his incredible career, classic rockers like “Maggie May,” “Baby Jane”and “Da Ya Think I’m Sexy” through to big ballads such as “Sailing,” “You’re In My Heart,” and “Tonight’s The Night.”

“I’m looking forward to performing in Tel Aviv in June. I promise to deliver a fun, energetic show. I’ll be playing your favorite hits, with a few surprises too. I give you fair warning – fasten your seat belts. I’m pulling out all the stops,” announced Stewart in a recently recorded video statement.
