Hitch-hiked her way across the U.S.A.
Plucked her eyebrows on the way
Shaved her legs and then he was a she
She said, hey babe, take a walk on the wild side,
Said, hey honey, take a walk on the wild side.
In the backroom she was everybody’s darling,
But she never lost her head
Even when she was giving head
She sayes, hey baby, take a walk on the wild side
Said, hey babe, take a walk on the wild side
And the colored girls go,
Doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo
Doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo
Doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo
Doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo
Doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo
Doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo
Everybody had to pay and pay
A hustle here and a hustle there
New York City is the place where they said:
Hey babe, take a walk on the wild side
I said hey Joe, take a walk on the wild side
Lookin’ for soul food and a place to eat
Went to the Apollo
You should have seen him go, go, go
They said, hey Sugar, take a walk on the wild side
I said, hey babe, take a walk on the wild side, alright, huh
Thought she was James Dean for a day
Then I guess she had to crash
Valium would have helped that bash
She said, hey babe, take a walk on the wild side
I said, hey honey, take a walk on the wild side
And the colored girls say
Doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo
Doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo
Doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo
Doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo
Doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo
Doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo doo
I ran into Marie this morning with her son.
Mary whispered to me a few months ago that she is actually the father of her children and since then i have been exploring gender identity though mine is not as complicated and is sadly conventional. I have struggles but none have to do with gender identity , and all have to do with a lack of ability to accept myself and how i constantly seem to contradict social values around me like making money and not caring about anyone or anything unless it brings you material values you can use.
Marie looks great with a fresh pink blush , beautiful blond hair, a feminine figure that puts mine to shame and a huge love for her son Martin and her 11 year old daughter that came to the world before she came to the world as a woman.
Last saturday i met Roei Victoria Heifetz, an Israeli transgender artist who lives in Berlin and i keep seeing the films she made and i keep remembering our short conversation and how i watcher her slip away from me to New York, to L.A. and back to Berlin,to places where only the well connected and the brave and the ones willing to risk being lions and not sheep go to, or maybe i just am neither one and can not even figure out the questions she knows are out there and attempts to visualise and share .
Transgenders are God, they are the universe , they live out ying yang in the most painful and real and honest way anyone born in this world has, and this is why i had gone from mistrust, doubt , ridicule to embracing them as my heros.
Peace, love and light i say to Marie and her son , and i mean every word and i take her beautiful smile and her twinkling blue eyes and i thank her for teaching me what it is like to be special in a world that attempts to make you like everyone else when it is not possible .
